Description
As the poet Ovidio said, Sulmona is historically unite at the water's theme. From the impressive chain of mountains that encircle it, the fresh mountain water enter into the city from the splendid swabian aqueduct and stoke the ancient fountains in the historical center.
Walking on Via Mazzara, in front of the town hall, you can see Palazzo Mazzara's yard where, on the first floor, on a terrace, that was considered a pensile garden, is placed an elegant 18th century's fountain.
Going out from the palace, turn on the left, and you arrive on Corso Ovidio where, near the Medieval Aqueduct, there's erect Fontana del Vecchio from 15th century.
In adiacenza alla fontana del Vecchio si snoda il
lungo Acquedotto di epoca sveva che incornicia a occidente il grande spazio
urbano di piazza Garibaldi.
Dal centro della piazza, spostandosi verso la
chiesa di S. Filippo Neri, si entra nel borgo pacentrano, percorrendo in salita
via Margherita; in fondo allo stretto vicolo, girando sulla sinistra, si giunge
in piazza Santa Margherita e, sulla sinistra, si scorge la cinquecentesca
fontana.
